Check out this blog’s new location.
Yesterday, I received an email inviting me to purchase ad space on Alex Tew’s (the founder of MillionDollarHomePage.com) new site (Pixelotto.com) before its December 5th debut.
Looks like the website will look and behave just like MillionDollarHomePage.com (Wikipedia explanation) but with a twist…
- Visitors have to register if they wish to earn a lottery ticket each time they click on an ad.
- Each visitor gets 10 clicks per day.
- Alex will have a raffle one month after filling up the site.
- The chosen one will receive $1 M.
- Alex now charges advertisers $2 per pixel, the $1 markup goes to him at first and the rest goes to the jackpot.
- Alex will give away 100k of the money he pockets to any charity the $1 M winner chooses.
Pros for Advertisers:
Visitors have another incentive to click around so advertisers don’t have to solely rely on making their ads as eye catchy and/or large as possible.
The MillionDollarHomepage.com did not provide data describing the type of person clicking on an advertiser’s banner. This time Alex will provide data. How will he gather data? Probably each time a lottery player registers.
Cons:
Visitors might blindly click on ads 10 times a day, hit the back button immediately 10 times, and leave the site right away.
Alex’s Terms of Service are now HUGE. Looks like he learned a lot from his previous venture.
My Prediction:
Pixelotto.com will be hugely successful. The world will be skeptical again, but then one by one, more ads will start populating the site and more visitors will be clicking and sharing eager to earn more lotto tickets.
Get ready for a new market, media frenzy, and another wave of copy-cats…
UPDATE
Pixelotto successfully launched yesterday and today it has a jackpot of 114k!
More pros for advertisers:
Player’s are not allowed to click on an ad more than once.
A translucent purple layer is placed over all the ads after a player signs and is ready to click, my theory is that it gives more of an equal chance to all ads of being clicked on.
Cons for players:
In the site’s terms, it leaves the player responsible for the legal consequences of earning money and playing on the site where they are located. And if it’s illegal for you, then you don’t get the prize money…
Question for anyone out there… do you know if it’s legal to play and earn money on Alex’ site where you’re located???
Heck, question for all the entrepreneurs starting up similar websites…. is it legal to start a copy-cat website where you’re from (I have a feeling these entrps won’t answer, so how about directing this question to curious entrps that don’t want to start a copy-cat website or lawyers looking for some publicity)?
Comment your location and what you know please.
And keep in mind, the uniqueness of this business method (I’m sure lawmakers didn’t see this one coming) before labeling it online gambling. I mean, player’s are not purchasing raffle tickets but “volunteering” their clicks for tickets…

Hey, I don’t belive this I beat him to it! I’ve already set up two sites, both working around this concept!
The first one is http://www.cashcells.co.uk : This site offers the user clicking on the adverts the chance to win $$$, the total size of the prize is directly related to the number of adverts.
The second site is http://www.microlotto.co.uk : This site gives the advertiser who buys a square the chance to win in a sort of ‘cell lottery’ set up. Check em out!

I think it PIXELOTTO will be VERY successful. So will all the advertisements all stop, or the site lose all traffic once the million is awarded? Will it keep on going monthly for a new jackpot? Can’t wait to hear the news on December 5!

The site isn’t yet launched and he already sold around $100k
The all story is being covered here:

Another success story?

WOW
He sold over $100k already? That just goes to show there will always be people willing to buy, even if it’s the same idea again, if done right.
Here’s an idea that’s actually DIFFERENT and kind of unique. You can submit stuff to be in an art project called THE WALL, and the aim isn’t necessarily just to advertise.

My name is Michael Blakeley, in three days time I was going to launch http://www.tickettoamillion.com but I have to bring this forward to today. It is the same idea as Alex Stews and I registered the domain name on the 16th August but he has miraculously come up with idea and launched three days before me.
Mine is the same idea but only a one off and a million dollars goes to one lucky entrant. Anyway please come and join my website is had taken me 4 months of hard work and asking favours to get it this far and It deserves to succeed. Check it out just to see how similar they are!! And my adverts will be on for 5 years, this is not a copycat I have been developing this site for a couple of months in my spare time.
Please come and support me and my website.

Nobody could create such event!
I’ve created statistics website that show daily stats on pixels sold on pixelotto.com.
Here it is
http://www.pixelottoreport.com
By now there are 126,300 pixels sold and 339 advertisers registered.
I’ll add charts soon, will be very interesting!

In my opinion, the success of this site, if happened, and I think that it will succeed but not getting the $2M target, anyway, this success is due to the poularity of MillionDollarHomePage and Alex Tew, more than the uniqueness of the idea, especially that I saw similar ideas before, may be not with pixels, but the ideas are similar!

Pixels and Presents are giving away free gifts ( Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, TV’s, laptops, DVD’s, and much more) to EVERY advertiser. That’s right: EVERYONE who purchases pixels will get a gift.
We are also randomly selecting visitors…who will also get some of the above gifts! Not one, not just a few…a SLEW of people!

Yeah, the kid’s got another winner for sure. And I don’t see a problem with the legality of it myself. Many people are doing the same thing or some variation of it already. They just don’t have the name recognition associated with their sites that Tew has.
His site is blowing up mainly because his celebrity lends credibility to the idea that there will be a huge payout. As long as users aren’t paying for a chance at the big bucks everything should be just fine.
His initial success prompted me to start my own site, like many. I started working on it in June and I’m just now launching it. Since I won’t have the novelty of being the first to do it and my name’s not Tew
, I have decided to try and offer maximum value for my ad partners in the amount of ad space and exposure I give them. I also intend to grow the site into a full fledged community site with greatly increased ad exposure.
But enough about me. I see only two problems for advertisers with the Lotto concept :
1. Users will have even less interest in the advertisers’ web site than with the orig-
inal conceptr as they will be solely clicking on these sites to get their 10 clicks
a day in. After that they will move on. I’ve entered similar contests and believe
me I can’t even remember anything about the ads I click on I’m usually going in
such rapid succession.
2. Once the contest is over user interest in this one will drop even faster than be-
fore because it will once again be just another pixel site with nothing ot offer the
user and we’ve seen them a million times already.
Oh yeah – and the cost per pixel on this one is huge! Already the growth of new ads has slowed considerably, although it is still a remarkabke feat for just two weeks post launch. He’ll probably make it. I’m glad he did. It’ll put a little jump starting back in the ol’ pixel ad industry!

I found another site, but it’s quite different – it doesn’t sell pixels, but rather letters. http://www.lettermatrix.com

Hi. I have several pixel ad sites but I don’t like his idea – far too high a minimum purchase for advertisers.
I’m wondering about the legalities of me (or anyone of us) setting up a site -charging $3.00 a pixel and paying out 1 million to a drawn winner after the grid was full.
I don’t know what the lottery or raffle laws would be in this place but could you offer something other than money to make it legal, if in fact this isn’t.
I was going to run a one pixel ad there – not for the winnings but because there might be a lot of other advertisers and we might see each other’s ads and links. However a $200.00 minimum lost my interest immediately. Any information appreciated.
It would seem that giving our customers back some of the money they spent on our systems would be completely legal – I suppose it is the chance element that might doom the plan.
